Common conclusions

You need a small pot of water to a boil. You should fill up a small pot with one or two cups of water and bring it to a full boil.

You should wash your face with using a gentle cleanser, while the water is heating up. You should be sure that you removed all the makeup and any dirt, oil or sweat that is sitting on the surface of your skin because it is so important that your skin be clean when you steam it. Your pores will open wide and if you have dirt or makeup on your skin it could cause irritation.

You should pour the steaming water into a bowl if you are doing the steam treatment as part of an at-home spa treatment. You should not pour the water into a plastic bowl and be careful that you do not burn yourself.

If you like essential oils you should add essential oils to the water to make the treatment more special. If you don’t have any special oils at your home, you can put a few herbal tea bags in the water. Chamomile, mint and chai all make excellent steam.

It is ok, but you should place your face close enough to the steaming water to feel it massaging your face, but not so close that your skin feels like it is burning . You should not steam your face for much longer than ten minutes.

You should put on a face mask because steaming your face leaves your pores wide open and that is the best time to try and draw out as much dirt and impurities as possible. You should apply the mask on your face and let it sit for about 15 minutes, then use a warm water to wash it off.
