Common conclusions

Cats that are highly active will require more frequent bathing so you should give your cat a bath more than twice a year. You should place a cotton in your cat’s ears to keep water out and massage a solution of one part cat shampoo to five parts water – you should work from head to tail and you need avoid the face, ears and eyes. Then wrap your kitty in a large towel and dry her with in a warm place, you should also use a blow dryer on its lowest setting and untangle her fur with a wide-tooth comb.

Most cats really dislike baths and they can find the experience very stressful, so if you are able to, you should just clean an isolated area, rather than getting their entire body wet.

If your cat is really scared you should apply just a small amount of shampoo and warm water to the contaminated area only if a full body cat bath is necessary. You should also avoid the head altogether and concentrate on lathering the rest of the body including the tail, underside and neck. You should not put anything inside your cat’s ears to keep them dry – such as cotton wool. Not only could this get stuck, but your cat will get stressed if they cannot hear clearly. Generally cats prefer to be towel dried rather than dried with a hair dryer so you should do the best job you can with a towel and then leave them in a warm room to dry off naturally.
