Does my cat have asthma?

Asthma, a condition of the lower airways, is estimated to afflict up to 5% of cats. Although the exact etiology of cat asthma is unknown, most experts believe it is caused by an allergic reaction to something the cat inhales. The immune system of a cat may respond to allergens inhaled by the cat, causing inflammation which may lead to an asthma attack. Inflammatory cells may form in the airways and generate substances that cause the inflammation to worsen.
