Common conclusions

Cumin thrives in full sun and loves heat. It needs a growing area with plenty of sunlight. Indoors, find a sunny window for your cumin. In the garden, they should be interspersed among other drought-tolerant perennials in an area that receives full sun.

Cumin prefers a well-drained, fertile sandy loam to loamy soil but will tolerate a diverse range of soil types. You can grow it in soilless potting mixes, perlite, vermiculite, Rockwool, coco peat, Oasis Rootcubes. As long as it drains well it should do the trick.

Cumin is a vigorous grower, so be sure to space accordingly. Plant anywhere from 12 to 24 inches apart, depending upon the specific variety.

Cumin is fairly drought tolerant, but it does benefit from watering, especially during dry, hot periods. Water thoroughly before the soil completely dries out. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so be cautious not to drench plants. In areas with long periods of dry heat, regular misting is a great way to keep plants moist without causing rotting.

Mulching with grass clippings, straw, or shredded leaves can also help to regulate soil moisture and prevent plants from becoming waterlogged, or drying out.

Cumin seeds often ripen unevenly, so you need to keep a close eye on your crop and harvest your cumin plants individually. Cumin seed pods are ready to harvest when they easily crack open in your hands and when the clusters turn brown.

Good job! You are taking good care of your cumin.

Cumin plants can be susceptible to aphids. A strong spray of water should deal with light infestations. For more severe infestations spray plants with insecticidal soap. Cumin may also be susceptible to wilt, blight, powdery mildew, and root rot if kept too wet.
