Common conclusions
Though tea, coffee, sodas, and other drinks contain a good amount of water, they are not the same as drinking plain water because the caffeine present in them tends to pull out some fluid from your body. In other words, drinking 100ml of water is a much better way to hydrate your body than drinking 100ml of coffee or soda because your body can't retain the entire 100ml because of the presence of caffeine.
Contrary to what many people think, meat is a great way to hydrate your body as it contains about 60% water. Again, meat is not a substitute for water because your body can't absorb the complete 60% present in it. More importantly, meat adds a lot of calories to your intake and can have other effects such as weight gain, especially if you consume large quantities of it.
You should think about increasing your fruit and vegetable intake as many of them contain copious amounts of fluid to keep you hydrated. Some fruits like grapes and watermelons contain extremely high water content that is enough to cool you even on a hot summer day. Grapefruits, oranges, cucumbers, and tomatoes are other options to consider for hydration.
People living in hot and humid places need extra water as the heat and sweat can quickly drain out water from your body. Make sure you tune in to what your body says and drink generous amounts of water, juices, and replenishing drinks like sports drinks. In addition, consume lots of fruits and vegetables as well, as they are low in calories, high in fiber, have good water content, and can give your entire body nourishment and hydration it needs.
Many times, you're busy in your work and it is hard to take a break to drink a sip of water. This is how many of us don't drink enough amounts of water necessary for keeping ourselves hydrated. A good way to overcome this problem is to keep a water bottle by your side always so you can drink water at regular intervals. Also, take a break to refill this bottle as soon as you can.
Dehydration is a potentially dangerous health condition that you should avoid. The good news is your body tells you when it needs water and some of the signs include dark-colored urine, no urine for many hours, dry mouth, fatigue, feeling of sleepiness, headache, and no tears from your eyes. If you have one or more of these symptoms, gulp down a few glasses of water right away.
Watch out for them and drink water when you have to!
