Are there any small, angular, gray-brown spots with defined darker red-brown margins on leaves?
Are the roots enlarged and clublike, plants are stunted with yellowish leaves that wilt during the day?
Are there any white to cream-colored blister-like lesions on the undersides of leaves that rupture and turn powdery white?
Are the leaves curled and yellow?
These symptoms indicate fungal disease - Septoria leaf spot. Remove and destroy infected plant debris. Don't handle or brush against plants when they are wet. Rotate plantings. Remove weeds growing nearby.
Enlarged and clublike roots are most likely caused by fungal disease - Club root. Remove and destroy any infected plants. Applying lime to the soil can reduce fungus sporulation.
White Blister Rust is a fungal disease that is known to infect Lunaria plants. The leaf area opposite the lesions bulges out slightly and turns slightly yellow. Avoid wetting the leaves when watering. Remove infected plant part and destroy. Provide good air circulation.
Distorted, curled leaves are caused by aphids. These tiny insects cluster under leaves and on growing tips where they feed on plant sap. Leaves, stems, and buds get distorted, and later leaves and flowers drop from the plant. You can control them by washing them off the plant with water spray. Insecticidal soap should be used with severe infestations.
Lunarias flowers grow on long, sturdy stalks. After the small flowers have bloomed in early summer, flat green pods develop and the seed is inside. Over the summer months, the pods and stalks will dry and turn a golden brown color. This color change is completely normal for Lunaria plants.
