Common conclusions
Brushing before bed is absolutely necessary as it gets rid of the germs and plaque that accumulate throughout the day and stops them from spreading around while you sleep.
Doing a poor job of brushing your teeth is almost as bad as not brushing at all. Take your time, moving the toothbrush in a gentle circular motion to remove plaque and bacteria from all sides of the teeth as plaque which is not removed can harden leading to gum diseases.
Your tongue can also have a plaque build-up which may lead to bad mouth odor and many other oral diseases if left unclean for a period of time.
Flossing is not just for getting those little pieces food that is stuck in between your teeth but is also a way to stimulate the gums, reduce plaque, and help lower inflammation in the affected area.
Generally all people should use it as it reduces the amount of acid in the mouth, cleans hard-to-brush areas in and around the gums, and strengthens the teeth. People with disability or children/old people who have trouble flossing or brushing should use it on a regular basis.
Water is absolutely necessary as it can help wash out some of the negative effects of sticky and acidic foods and beverages in between brushes.
The recommended number of times you should see your dentist for cleanings and checkups is twice a year as not only can a dentist remove calculus and look for cavities, but will also be able to spot potential issues and offer treatment solutions.
