Different plants need different environmental conditions to grow. The hardiness of plants defines their ability to survive and grow in any given area. A hardiness zone is a geographic area relevant to plant growth and survival. A system developed by the USDA defines 26 zones (1a-13b) by annual extreme minimum temperature ranging from -60°F to 70°F. So, for example, if the plant has a hardiness of 7, it means it can grow and survive the extreme minimum temperature of that zone and above. But if you live in a zone below that, it means that you would need to take the plant inside during the coldest months. Do you live somewhere in the Northeastern USA?
