Common conclusions

Eternal flame plants grow best in bright indirect sunlight. Place it in a bright room, but no direct sunlight as that can make the color of the leaves fade away. East, west, or north-facing windows are a choice of location.

Eternal flame plants love warmth. The temperature should not be lower than 60 ºF. It will do well in a room temperature given that it stays stable, and not change much.

The best potting soil mix for the eternal flame is soil-based potting compost with some peat moss (around 25%). Good drainage is essential for these plants.

Eternal flames need high humidity. It is best to mist the plant every day with room temperature water or put a plant on a tray with wet pebbles or expanded clay, but the bottom of the pot should not be in the water. If it does not have enough humidity the color of the leaves will be spoiled by brown spots.

Eternal flame likes to have an even amount of water. It is especially important during the summer months when it is warmer. Irrigate when the top inch of soil becomes dry, using enough water so that it runs from the pot’s bottom drain holes. This will amount to around once weekly. In winter, you may only have to water every two weeks. Use distilled or sedimented water.

Eternal Flame Plant isn’t a big feeder but will benefit from a fertilizer applied every month during the growing seasons of spring through summer. The plant goes through a dormant period during winter, so there’s no need to fertilize.

It is best to trim off the foliage as it dies naturally, trimming back to the base. You can also remove any diseased or damaged leaves, as they won’t correct themselves. You also can prune off the damaged section of the foliage so it doesn’t show or take away from the plant’s appearance.

Good Job! You are taking good care of your eternal flame houseplant.

Houseplants are usually safe from pests, but keep an eye on small insects like spider mites, or mealybugs. Products that control the pest infestation include using a horticultural soap spray or Neem oil. Also, maintain good watering practices to avoid root rot and other fungal problems.
