Common conclusions

Check if your router is working properly. You should see the lights blinking on your router, especially the power button and two other green buttons, though this varies from router to router. In general though, if you see only one light or no/red light, it indicates a problem with the router. Consider replacing it or get in touch with a professional to fix the problem for you.

Many times, existing devices such as phones and laptops can connect to the Internet. But when you try to connect a new device to the Internet, it throws up problems. If this happens, check if the device is working fine and if possible, see if the device can connect to another network or a wireless hotspot. If your new device can connect to a different network, the problem could lie with the router's band. If you're familiar, set up two bands on your router, otherwise, contact a professional to fix it for you.

If a friend or a family member handed over their router to you, there is a fairly high chance you won't be able to connect to the Internet because of the existing settings. The best fix is to reset the router to factory settings, so it is almost new from a configuration perspective. Now, connect to the Internet and everything should work fine.

There could be a ton of reasons for a low Internet connection. Run through speed test tools as a first step to check if your Internet Service Provider(ISP) is offering the promised speed and bandwidth. Check for problems with your router, the number of devices, bandwidth usage, and other pertinent factors. If everything seems to be in order, take up this problem with your provider.

There's a chance that your firewall or security software is preventing you from connecting to the Internet. Check the settings of your firewall or antivirus software and give the necessary permissions to connect to the Internet. Sometimes, a restart may be required for the changes to become effective.

To understand if the problem is with the device or the Internet, turn off the Wi-Fi, and connect it to mobile data. If this works, then you know that the problem is with the Internet and you can take steps to fix it.

If you're using a laptop or desktop, restart the device as this could flush out many problems. If you're still unable to connect, look at other areas such as your antivirus software, firewall, network device, driver, Internet connection, router, etc. You should be able to find a solution to one of these places.
