Lots of bulbs can be toxic to certain animals, but they still often end up on the menu of some small rodents, rabbits, or dears. Some of the bulbs that most animals will avoid include Spanish bluebells, Alliums, Reticulated iris, Daffodils, Snowdrops, Snowflakes, Scilla, Siberian squill.
Good choices for annuals that most animals will avoid eating are Sweet alyssum, Flossflower, Wax begonias, Geranium, Pot marigold.
Good choices of vines and ground covers that will rarely be food for animals are Ajuga, Wisteria, Creeping myrtle, Yellow alyssum, Lily-of-the-valley, Creeping junipers, Virginia creeper, Catmint, Japanese spurge, Spotted dead nettle.
If you wish to plant nice looking decorative trees that are animal resistant, consider planting Japanese maples, Hawthorn, Eastern redbud, Maidenhair, Ash, or Magnolia.
