Most common questions used to investigate
Has your child been abandoned, by you or another caregiver?
Does your child experience a lack of appropriate supervision, by you or another caregiver?
Does your child experience a failure to attend to necessary emotional or psychological needs, caused by you or another caregiver?
Do you, or another caregiver, demonstrate a failure to provide necessary education, medical care, nourishment, shelter, and/or clothing to your child?
Common conclusions
Based on your answers, it is unlikely that your child is a victim of neglect by a caregiver. Child neglect is an act or omission by a child’s caregiver that deprives the child of basic needs and thereby results or may result in physical or psychological damage to the child.
Unfortunately, your child is displaying one or more signs typically seen among children who are victims of neglect by a caregiver. Child neglect may include physical neglect, such as not providing clothing, shelter or food. Emotional neglect includes withholding love, affection or comfort. Medical neglect occurs as well. If you suspect or know that your child has been neglected, you should contact a mental health professional as soon as possible. Abuse or neglect have a tremendous impact on a child. With early therapy the development of severe future problems will be avoided. The caregiver who is responsible for the neglect requires separate treatment as well.
