Common conclusions

If the spark plugs are too worn out they would not be able to ignite the fuel air mixture in the cylinders, this might even cause misfires, which shake the car even while idling. Replace the spark plugs and the shaking should disappear.

If your air filter is too dirty, there will not be enough air getting into the engine. Because the amount of fuel that goes into the combustion cylinders is proportionate to the amount of air that goes into them too, this means that there will not be enough to make the engine run efficiently, making it shake in the process. Clean or replace the air filter and your car should run fine afterwards.

You need to replace your fuel filter when it is already clogged up with dirt. When the fuel filter is already bad, there will not be enough fuel going into the engine. If you do not have any experience with repairing fuel lines, let your mechanic replace the fuel filter for you.

If your car is more than ten years old, or if your car's engine produces a lot of torque, the motor mounts might be worn out already. With broken motor mounts all of the vibrations produced by the engine will be transferred to the entire car. Take your car to a professional garage to have the motor mounts replaced.

If your tires are out of balance, it will cause your car to shake when you reach speeds between 50 and 70 miles per hour. If you suspect this is the case, go to your nearest tire repair shop and have your wheels balanced properly.

If your tires are balanced properly, the problem is most likely with your wheels. The wheel might have been bent out of shape when you hit a pothole or hit a curb. This could have thrown your wheel off balance and cause the shaking that you felt.

If this is the case, the problem might be a bit more serious, your car's drive shaft, axles, or U-joints might have sustained some considerable damage. If this is the case you need to take your car immediately to the mechanic; leaving it as is will result in more serious damage and even cause a fatal accident.

The brake rotors or the brake drums (depending on what your car is using) must be worn out. The rotor might have warped because you haven't replaced your worn out brake pads that the heat from braking warped the rotor out of shape.
